Wheeling Traction Co. 639 is one of only two surviving Cincinnati Car Co. built light-weight curved-side cars. They were called "Rubber Stamp" cars because Cincinnati built a large number of them for railroads across the south. The curved side plates allowed the sides of the cars to bear a major portion of the weight that had been born by large center sills and support beams. There was also a construction time savings because there was less need for actual framing. These techniques would be further refined in the streamlined cars of the trolleys and trains that followed.
